Dear Senator,
I am writing to register my opposition against SB 1481. This bill will use the power of eminent domain to build the border wall, which is just plain wrong, and frankly, anti-Texan.
Every Texan should have the right to decide what they do with their own property, without the government getting in their way, especially when it will destroy the value of their property forever, whether that’s a place of business, homestead or ranch.
Similarly, cities and towns have the right to decide what to do with their own public land, without interference from State and Federal governments that are guided by people who live far away from the border.
Supporting this bill will show that the current Texas Legislature is, in fact, all about Big Government willing to squash the rights and freedoms of hard working Texans, and for a project that is full of government waste – taxpayers will be asked to pay a shocking $20 million if not more for every destructive mile of ineffective wall.
If Abbott wants to build a wall, he needs to do it the Texas way, which is work with property owners and border cities, not tread all over them.
Vote no on SB 1481.
